They stand between eight and nine feet tall, their immense size making them some of the strongest humanoids in Derlith. With their brute strength and overwhelming physical presence, they dominate the battlefield, relying on sheer power rather than finesse or intellect. Half-Giants are often mercenaries, gladiators, or bodyguards, finding purpose through combat and survival. They are not naturally cruel, but their world is one of raw power, where the strong thrive, and the weak are trampled. Their massive weapons and armor are too large for smaller races to wield, giving them access to a unique arsenal of destructive force. However, they are not known for intelligence or faith. They tend to think in simple, direct terms, and rarely engage in philosophy, deep magic, or politics. While some show cunning in battle, most lack the patience for strategy or subtlety. Instead, they follow those they respect, often pledging their loyalty to powerful warlords, kings, or gods of battle. Many Half-Giants find spiritual purpose in war, and when they do turn to the gods, they often follow Ares, the Chaotic god of warfare, bloodlust, and killing. Ares represents the primal spirit of battle, and Half-Giants see him as the ultimate patron of strength, conquest, and raw combat prowess. Some others, however, are drawn into the ranks of Aramon's armies, becoming some of the most dreaded and evil death knights or priests known throughout all of Derlith. Physical & Mental Traits Half-Giants are very tall, standing eight to nine feet tall, with thick, heavily muscled frames. Their immense strength allows them to wield massive weapons, making them almost living siege engines in battle. Their skin ranges from pale to deep brown, often marked with battle scars, and their hair is typically wild and unkempt. Despite their incredible endurance, their large size makes them slower than smaller races, and they lack the precision for delicate tasks. They are not unintelligent, but they think in simple, straightforward ways, preferring action over words and instinct over contemplation. A Half-Giant's height and keen battlefield awareness allow them to spot threats from afar, making them effective sentinels and warriors. Culture & Philosophy Half-Giants have no unified culture, existing as scattered nomads, mercenaries, or outcasts. They are too large for human cities, yet not strong enough to live among true giants. This forces them into a life of wandering, where only their strength and willpower determine their survival. Many integrate into barbarian tribes, where strength earns respect, while others sell their skills as warriors-for-hire. They do not seek riches for luxury, but rather for survival, weapons, and battle gear. When they turn to religion, they favor Ares, the god of battle, conquest, and killing, or Aramon, the god of death and destruction. To a Half-Giant, both represent the ultimate warrior, ones who respects strength above all else. They believe that to fight, struggle, and triumph in battle is the highest calling - and that cowards and weaklings have no place in the world. However, on rare occasions, you will find a more peaceful Half-Giant. These are those that take up the mantle of a Druid or Ranger, or those that choose to become a follower of the God Enoch. Some Half-Giants simply just want to wander and travel, exploring the vast world of Derlith as a bard or monk!
